Former Naomh Conaill boss Cathal Corey has resigned as the manager of the Sligo senior football team.
Corey, from Kildress in County Tyrone, stepped down after one seasoning charge.
Sligo were heavily beaten by Galway in a Connacht semi-final and lost out to Armagh in the qualifiers.
Corey applied for the Donegal job last year following the resignation of Rory Gallagher, but was then appointed to the Sligo hotseat in October.
Corey managed Naomh Conaill to Donegal SFC glory in 2010, when the Glenties club reached an Ulster final.
A nephew of ex-Donegal and Derry manager Brian McIver, Corey has held a number of jobs around Ulster.
“Sligo County Board wish to announce that their Senior Football Team Manager Cathal Corey has notified them of his decision to resign from his role,” a statement from Sligo GAA said.
The statement said that ‘the demands of the role, allied to new work commitments in his own business’ resulted in Corey’s departure.
“Chairman of the County Board Joe Taaffe in accepting his decision wished to thank Cathal for his efforts over the past season and acknowledged the successes that he achieved with his backroom team in a very challenging transitional time for the Senior team.
“He went on to wish Cathal all the very best in the future both in a football context and with his business.
“He went on to say that the Co Board will be seeking to appoint a new Manager by the end of August.”
