Ben Carr, a 17-year-old from Finn Valley AC, won the Carrigans 5k, hosted by Lifford-Strabane AC, this morning.
217 athletes toed the line in a race which was won by Carr in 17.04.
Second home was Lifford Strabane AC’s Garreth McCullagh with Paul Barbour in third.
In the Womens race, Lifford Strabane athlete Claire McGuigan broke the tape in 18.07 with last years Series winner Finn Valley’s Leoni Mullen second and 17-year-old Enya Haigney from Derry Track Club in third.
Prior to the race, a minutes silence was observed as a mark of respect for the late Adrian Devine from Castlefin Runners who died suddenly on Wednesday evening.
The second race of the Series will take place in Strabane on Sunday 28th January. Athletes can pre-register on line or on the morning of the race.
