CARNDONAGH GAA club members will embark on a 5,000km fundraising journey this weekend.

Traditionally, the Carndonagh club stages a fundraising hurling match, under-25s v over-25s but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 version has had to be shelved.

However, to keep their fundraising endeavours going and to mark the date, club members will underage the challenge over a 24-hour period from 9am on Sunday.

Their challenge is to raise money for Motor Neuron Disease Ireland and Work Link North West

A Go Fund Me page is active and you can contribute here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/clocking-up-5000km-for-mnd-and-worklink-north-west/

“This is a huge challenge, and one we hope that the community will all get involved in for two great charities,” the club said.

The event begins at 9am on Sunday and finished at 9am on Monday.

All walks/runs are to be completed within government guidelines.

All walks/runs are to be tracked on Strava or wherever you track your exercise. Take a screenshot of finished walk/run and text it to Cathal Doherty on Facebook or on WhatsApp (0868968996).

Screenshots will be posted to the event page so if you wish to post directly to that page you can do so.

This event is open to EVERYONE beyond the Carndonagh community and there is no sign up.

The club added: “Get out whenever you can, for as long as you can, as many times you can. Even the smallest distance will be a big difference to the total.”
