Carl McHugh’s Plymouth Argyle exit the League Cup

THREE seasons ago, Carl McHugh from Lettermacaward was part of the Bradford City side that stormed to the Capital One League Cup final.

Bradford went all the way to Wembley after wins over Wigan Athletic, Aston Villa and Arsenal but were beaten 5-0 in the final by Brian Laudrup’s Swansea City.

McHugh (pictured above) last year joined Sky Bet League Two outfit Plymouth Argyle and last night against Gillingham in the first round, took the lead through Craig Tanner on 78 minutes.

However, Bradley Deck managed to get back on terms with a fine solo 85th-minute effort before Jake Hessenthaler struck the winner two minutes later.

Following their opening day 2-0 win at AFC Wimbledon last Saturday, this coming Saturday Plymouth hope to make it two from two when they welcome Portsmouth in a south-coast derby.
