KIERAN MCDAID FROM BUNCRANA played the last half-an-hour for the Irish Colleges and Universities Football team in their 1-0 win over the Welsh Universities today.

Carlow IT student McDaid came on to replace Jason McClelland as Ireland scored a 1-0 friendly win at Jenner Park in Barry, just south of Cardiff.

Ireland took the win thanks to Georgie Pynton’s first-half goal.

McDaid and fellow Buncrana man and Carlow IT student Jonny Bonner – who plays for Wexford Youths – were part of the Carlow IT side that won the CFAI Division 1 title in February.

McDaid plays his club football with Buncrana Hearts in the Inishowen League and will miss this evening’s Jackie Crossan Premier Division clash with reigning champions Glengad United because of his international commitments.

McDaid spent the latter part of 2015 at Finn Harps before returning to the Castle Park side.

Last May, he scored one of the goals as the Inishowen League won the Oscar Traynor Cup with a 2-1 win over Limerick League at Maginn Park.

Joe Coll of Glenea United and GMIT was an unused sub for today’s game in Wales.
