‘BUNCRANA BANGER’ John Hutchinson is back in action this weekend when he meets Sonny Whiting.

The 30-year-old orthodox Hutchinson ended a 20-month ring exile in May when he defeated Darryl Sharp at Villa Park to take his pro record to 6-2-2.

Hutchinson will now meet Whiting (2-8-1) at the Tudor Grange Leisure Centre in Solihull on Saturday night.

Hutchinson is a former Irish title challenger having been beaten by Peter McDonagh for the vacant Irish super-welterweight title in March 2014 at the Rivermead Leisure Centre.

He’s on a comeback road now after a long lay-off having been based in Thailand and, more recently, Marbella, since suffering a loss to Danny Shannon at Villa Park in September 2014.

Whiting has won only two of his eleven contests.

Whiting was the opponent for the pro debut of Vijender Singh, a former amateur foe of Jason Quigley’s.

In October of last year, Singh pummelled Whiting, stopping the fight before the end of the third round. At the 2013 World Elite Senior Championships, Quigley defeated Singh on his way to winning a silver medal.

In May, Hutchinson recorded a 39-38 points win over Sharp and will aim for another win this weekend.
