Bonagee United make light of reversed USL fixture at Fanad United

DRY ARCH PARK was deemed unplayable on Sunday morning, so Bonagee Utd made the journey to Fanad United and left with a convincing win.

Bonagee United 4-1 Fanad United

Arthur Lynch’s men started the game well, and were definitely on top in the opening exchanges with Marty McAteer marshalling his defence well, and Keelin McElwaine and Davitt Walsh causing problems for the opposition going forward.

It was the visiting side who broke the deadlock in the 24th minute. The excellent Dean Larkin crossed from the left and Kevin Barr was on hand to side foot home from 10 yards.

They doubled their lead two minutes later, when Barr once again was the scorer after Aidan McLaughlin’s effort was pushed onto the post by Paddy Kelly in the Fanad nets.

The host’s jobs was made even more difficult when Walsh received his marching orders following two yellow cards.

Goal number three came five minutes into the second period.  A Barr free from twenty five yards was parried by Kelly, with Larkin being the quickest to react to slot home from close range.

Fanad were handed a lifeline in the 55th minute, when hesitancy by Gareth Breslin in the Bonagee penalty area allowed Ryan McGonagle to dispossess him and score from 10 yards. Bonagee had a number of chance to increase their advantage, but good efforts from Larkin and McLaughlin went well over.

They did get their fourth with seven minutes remaining on the clock, when McLaughlin beat the offside trap to find the corner of the net.

These two teams will meet in the Knockalla Caravans in Bonagee next Sunday, where Fanad will hope to gain revenge for this defeat.
