Bonagee United ladies in bid to reach WFAI semi-finals tomorrow

Bonagee United senior ladies head for Dublin tomorrow to face Hardwicke FC in the quarter-final of the WFAI Intermediate Shield.

Louise Gordon’s team take on the Dubliners at Stella Marris FC in Drumcondra (7.30pm) with a place in the last four the reward for the winners.

Bonagee had a good start to their North West Women’s Super League season and, although they’ve had a couple of draws of late, the Dry Arch side head for the capital hoping to reach the semis.

Last season, Bonagee – then under Seamy McGinty’s stewardship – went to the semis and suffered an agonising loss to Manulla in Mayo.

Bonagee will be without captain Leona Russell, who is off to Australia this weekend with the Irish Banshees.

Hardwicke have in their ranks ex-Irish international Sara Lawlor, formerly of Peamount in the Women’s National League, but the hard-working Bonagee will be aiming to take an away win in Dublin for the second year in a row.

Last year, Natalie McFadden’s brace gave Bonagee a 2-1 extra-time win over Finglas United in the quarter-finals.
