Blow for Harps as Gareth Harkin sustains back injury

Finn Harps have been dealt a fresh injury blow with the news that Gareth Harkin could be facing a spell on the sidelines.

Harlkin – who has featured in every Premier Division game this season for Harps – had to be substituted late in the first half of last night’s 3-1 loss to Galway United in Ballybofey.

Harkin was replaced by Damien McNulty in the 40th minute of the game. The Letterkenny man, who started at left-back, went down at the Town End and was attended to by physio Colm O’Neill, but had to be called ashore.

“Gareth is struggling there,” Harps boss Ollie Horgan said afterwards.

“He has torn a muscle in his back. We had to take him out of there.

“We’ll need him back and we’ll need him back fairly quickly because we need everyone on board to try and stay in this division.”

Harkin was restored to the starting XI last night having had the role of a substitute in Bray last week, but his game was short-lived.

Harps are already without striker Danny Morrissey, who is out for several weeks with a hamstring injury.
