Big result for Raphoe Hockey Club thanks to Lyttle’s late double

RAPHOE HOCKEY CLUB made it two from two in the Ulster Premier League thanks to two late goals from Alan Lyttle this afternoon.

Raphoe 3-1 South Antrim

At the Royal & Prior, Lyttle’s two goals were enough to see off South Antrim Hockey Club.

Kit Regan opened the scoring for the home team. Following a short corner, Stephen Cleverly’s shot was saved but with the visitors struggling to clear, Regan slotted home.

In an even contest, South Antrim levelled at the start of the second half.

With it looking as though both sides were going to have to be content with a point apiece, Lyttle scored twice late on, both from Luke Witherow assists.

Last week, Raphoe opened their league season with a 3-1 at Belfast Harlequins.

Matthew Lecky picked up collarbone injury and Simon Goudie was suffering an arm complaint.

Vincent Devenney and Adrian Crumley joined the first-team panel this afternoon as William Kilpatrick was unavailable.

Next up for Rodney Bates and Richard Eaton’s team is an away fixture at Mossley.

Raphoe: Jonny Rankin, Vincent Devenney, Adrian Crumley, Alex Tinney, Alan Meehan, Ian McGonigle, Kit Regan, Keith Meehan, Ben Wallace, Luke Witherow, George Patterson, Paul Stewart, Stephen Cleverly, Alan Lyttle. Coaches: Rodney Bates, Richard Eaton.
