‘Banty’ in the mix for Donegal post as Monaghan man applies for job

Seamus ‘Banty’ McEnaney has applied for the vacant Donegal manager’s job.

McEnaney last week stepped down as manager of the Wexford footballers after just one year at the helm.

McEnaney filed an application in advance of Saturday evening’s deadline.

The Corduff man previously managed his native Monaghan and took the Farney to two Ulster finals during a six-year term.

McEnaney had a forgettable two-year stint as Meath manager and, in 2017, although Wexford won promotion from Division 4, they lost to Carlow and Monaghan in the Championship.

Declan Bonner was nominated by several Donegal clubs and is contesting the position, while Gary McDaid and Cathal Corey are also leaving their names in the mix having been put forward by Glenswilly and Naomh Conaill respectively.

Donegal minor boss Sean Paul Barrett has also been nominated for the post.

The Donegal County Board are not officially releasing the names of the candidates until later this week.
