SETANTA HURLER SHANE GALLEN has been picked on the Ireland Under 21 Squad for the upcoming Shinty-Hurling International in Inverness.

Ireland will take on Scotland in Bught Park on October 24th, with a Senior International between the same counties later that afternoon.

Shane joins a small list of Donegal hurlers who have lined out for their country, with no player from the county on the squads in recent years.

“It’s a very high standard so I’m very happy to be chosen,” Gallen said.

“I had to go through two trials. I’m happy to get the opportunty and I’m looking forward to it.”

Among those also included on the Under 21 side, are Waterford’s Austin Gleeson and Conor McDonald from Wexford.

The senior squad includes Waterford’s Maurice Shanahan, Clare’s David McInerney and Shane Moloney of Galway, along with Antrim’s Neal McAuley and Gareth Johnson of Down.

Cóilín Duffy has been speaking to Shane, who talked of his pride to be chosen to play for his country.
