Audio: Seanie McDermott’s delight at Roscommon start against Donegal

SEANIE MCDERMOTT and Roscommon set themselves a challenge on Sunday – and met it in style.

Roscommon arrived in Letterkenny to take on a Donegal side with whom they were level on points before the game.

Roscommon looked every inch a seasoned Division 1 and their display in a 1-19 to 0-17 win belied the fact that they’re in their first year back in the top flight.

They burst into a 0-7 to 0-1 lead and although Donegal did hit back, Roscommon showed plenty of nous to see out the win.

“Getting out of the traps early against Donegal is something that you have to do,” McDermott told Donegal Sport Hub.

“If Donegal get a lead on you, they can be quite physical and quite domineering. You’d find it hard to break them down so we’re fortunate that we got the scores early on.

“We kept doing what we were doing well and we answered quite well anytime when they got a point.”
