Audio: Sean Sweeney content with Orchard FC’s ‘heart and soul’ ahead of Arranmore trip

SEAN SWEENEY met with Orchard FC’s players on July 22 and asked for their ‘heart and soul’ for a season – and he’s been pleased with the response.

After a 2-2 draw with derby rivals Glencar Celtic in Rathmullan last Saturday kept them a point clear of their local foes, Orchard now make the tricky trip to Arranmore United tomorrow.

“It will be a serious test now to go to the island and get anything,” says Sweeney, who is enjoying the view from the table top.

“It’s been a great start to the season. I told them I’d put my heart and soul into for a year and asked them for the same.

“We have a very strong bench this year and the lads on the pitch know that. I played for eight years with the club and saw more bad days than good. We’ve a long way to go now.”

On last weekend’s drawn encounter, Sweeney said: “Coming down here anyday and getting a point is a good result. It could have went either way, but we’re happy as Larry to get a share of the spoils.

“A point apiece was a fair result. There was always going to be plenty of chances in that game. Overall, the game was very open. I’m happy with the lads – they had plenty of work rate and desire.”
