Audio: Paul McCauley on an eventful day as Drumoghill get past Bonagee

Drumoghill goalkeeper Paul McCauley was delighted to make amends for an early blip with a crucial penalty save this afternoon.

Drumoghill sent USL side Bonagee United out of the Knockalla Caravans Senior Cup after a 2-1 win in extra-time at The Moss.

McCauley let a long-ranger by Gareth Breslin sneak in at the near post in the opening minute, but a penalty save from Aidan McCauley at the end of extra time secured Drumoghill’s place in the next round.

“I thought it was going a mile wide,” McCauley said of the early goal.

“Even when the ball was in the net, I didn’t think it was in. I made up for it with the save, though. Luckily I went the right way and the wee man scuffed it.”

Bonagee had Chris Moran and Breslin sent off and Drumoghill won as Liam O’Donnell netted in extra time after Pajo Rafferty’s equaliser.

McCauley said: “We have a ple of goalscorers; we have goals galore. If we can keep them out at the back we won’t be far away

“We had nothing to lose today, but the main one is the League for us. It’ll be a bad year if we don’t win the League.”
