PATSY MCGONAGLE has told of his immense pride after being chosen as the special guest for the 41st Donegal Sports Star Awards.

The 2016 Donegal Sports Star Awards function will be held in the Mount Errigal Hotel on Friday, January 27 and McGonagle will be the guest of honour.

The Ballybofey man – who is a Freeman of Donegal – is the Irish Athletics Team manager and filled the role last year at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

It was his fifth time at the Olympics and his fourth as the manager of the Athletics Team, having led the team to Sydney 2000, Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

“I do feel as if it is a fantastic honour for me, simply because I’m local,” McGonagle told Donegal Sport Hub.

“I’ve been involved in it in many aspects over the years. It’s a big honour. I’m very, very grateful.

“It is a wonderful event and it has developed. The addition of the County Council and the Schools awards have really added to it. It’s an exciting night for so many people.”
