Audio: Neil Gordon and St Eunan’s College left to rue an opportunity missed

ST EUNAN’S COLLEGE manager Neil Gordon was proud of his players in their Mac Larnon Cup defeat against Our Lady’s, Castleblaney in Drumragh yesterday.

St Eunan’s went down by a point after a succession of costly misses and the concession of a goal to Aaron Courtney late in the first half in what Gordon described a ‘clash of the heavyweights’.

Gordon was left to rue the squandered opportunities.

“We had three easy goal chances and we had nine wides in the first half,” he told Donegal Sport Hub.

“If you don’t take your chances, you won’t win the games. I told the boys to play attacking football and express themselves. They did that but they just didn’t take the chances. They put in a big effort all year.

“They got a fortuitous goal from a mistake. If we had just kept the scoreboard ticking….

“I’m proud of that team and the way they played. They gave it everything. It just wasn’t to be on the day.

“It’s just disappointing. There is no hiding that. It was a clash of the heavyweights and both teams gave it their all.”
