Audio: Micheál Naughton’s delight as Donegal ladies overcome Armagh

DONEGAL LADIES manager Micheál Naughton was thrilled with the manner of his side’s win over Armagh in Convoy.

Donegal made a winning return to Division 1 with a fine 4-10 to 0-11 win on a day when Paula McGrory netted a brace of goals with Roisin Friel and Amber Barrett also on target.

“We’d have taken both hands off someone if they said we’d beat Armagh 4-10 to 11 points,” Naughton said.

“We put in a lot of work. We had a bit more edge and pace. The goals were the big scores. We should have had another one or two.

“We stressed the first 15 minutes because Armagh had been a bogey team for us. We hadn’t beaten them in a long time. We had to put a stamp on the game and we did that.

“It is a great result. We’re more than happy.”

Donegal are determined to stay in the top flight and while they face some challenging away trips in the coming weeks, Naughton is pleased with the selection headaches he’s been handed.

He said: “This is only the first game and it’s only January. We have a good bench, great calibre of players to come on. You have to have a bench and everyone is fighting for places.

“It was a very good team performance.”
