FINN HARPS and Derry City attracted a crowd of almost 5,000 supporters to Finn Park on Friday night, as Harps returned to the Premier Division amid a carnival atmosphere.

The national media rolled up on Navenny Street as derby night fireworks heralded Harps’ first game in the Premier Division since 2008.

Goals from Dave Scully and Ryan Curran gave Harps a 2-1 win, their first League win since 1998 and their first in all competitions since 2000.

It was certainly a special night by the Finn as Harps scored a famous win over their bitter rivals.

RTÉ Radio’s Barry O’Neill, who hails from Ballyshannon, was in Ballybofey and put together a superb package that featured on Sunday Sport on RTÉ Radio 1.

Featuring Connie Duffy, who covered Harps for the local newspapers in Donegal for years, Harps captain Kevin McHugh, Harps secretary John Campbell and the McNamee brothers, Tony and Barry, who played against each other, ‘Derby Night: A story of rivals, brothers and a departed star’ has proved a real hit with Harps supporters.
