Audio: Laurence McGrath’s pride as he gets set to welcome Donegal to New York

Pettigo native Laurence McGrath – the Chairman of the New York County Board – has told of his pride as he gets set to welcome Donegal to the Big apple in April.

Rory Gallagher, his Donegal senior squad squad and county board officials will fly out to New York for a week in mid-April, when they will play two games against New York in Gaelic Park.

The trip is a fundraising venture, but the two challenge games will be for the Jimmy McGonigle Cup.

“It’s great to see Donegal coming for two games that New York wants and New York needs,” McGrath told Donegal Sport Hub.

“A lot of Donegal people came to New York and stayed. I came myself in the late 80s and stayed. I used to ring my mother and get to listen to the commentary from the Donegal games – I’ve always been a very proud Donegal man.”

The proceeds from the trip will go towards the training fund and the development of the Training Centre.
