KEITH HEGARTY ALWAYS BELIEVED that his Lagan Harps side would get the job done and clinch the Temple Domestic Appliances Division 1 title.

They had to wait until the final day of the season on Sunday, but two second half goals by Mark Hunter saw them edge out Convoy Arsenal and Donegal Town, who pushed the Manor men all the way.

“I believed in the boys,” Hegarty told Donegal Sport Hub.

“We knew what we had to do. We were happy to get the draw last week and we needed four points. We came out of the blocks okay and everything felt good, but the nerves kicked in a wee bit.

“We played well though. Kerrykeel put it up to us. We wanted an early goal, but they made it hard for us.

“At half-time I said: ‘We’re the best team in the League, we’re here for a reason’. Every man believed that and we just had to be patient. It could have been more at the end up.”

Hunter’s brace took him to 25 for a remarkable season and a new club record at Orchard Park.

Hegarty said: “The attitude is correct and I can’t say enough about him. The goals speak volumes for him.”

The win not only sealed the title for Lagan, but it puts them back into the top flight of the Donegal League once more.

And Hegarty is aiming high: “Hopefully we can strengthen. Some of the players here are well capable. We’ve beaten Rathmullan, Drumoghill and Kildrum in Cup games and wee friendlies during the season. I’d like a Cup run and to push on for the top three.”
