Audio: It’s one down, two to go for Brid McGinty and Lagan Harps Ladies

BRID McGinty was delighted to see her Lagan Harps side respond the way she wanted in Wednesday night’s Glencar Cup final.

Lagan overcame Glenree United 8-4 in an absorbing contest at The Diamond Park, just two weeks after Glenree shocked Lagan with a 5-1 beating in the Donegal Women’s League.

Glenree had an early warning shot as Denise Doherty gave them the lead inside the opening minute, but hat-tricks by Caroline Gallagher and Nakita Burke brought glory to Lagan.

“Glenree deserved that win two weeks ago when they beat us 5-1 and when they hit us within a minute here I thought: ‘Not a repeat of the League game’,” McGinty told Donegal Sport Hub.

“We settled down, we got the momentum, we got the ball on the ground and we started to pass it – that’s what we believe in.”

Lagan are also the fore-runners for the Women’s League title and they meet Greencastle FC in next Saturday’s Ulster Cup final at Aileach.

McGinty said: “Our Under-16s have also won the League and they’re going for the Donegal and Ulster Cups – fingers crossed we could have two trebles at the end of the year.”
