DIARMUID O’BRIEN, the manager of the Inishowen League’s Oscar Traynor Cup-winning team was delighted after they were named Team of the Year at the Donegal Sports Star Awards on Friday.
The Inishowen League won the competition for the first time last May when goals by Stephen McLaughlin and Kieran McDaid sealed a 2-1 win over Limerick League at Maginn Park.
“We’re delighted to win the award with 15 different teams nominated,” O’Brien said.
“It’s a prestigious award and gives due recognition to what was an exceptional achievement.
“We have a small base with nine teams in our Premier Division. To have beaten the AUL and Limerick along the way was fantastic.”
The Inishowen League are through to the quarter-finals and play Galway away from home as their title defence continues.
