Audio: David McGinley acknowledges step into Division 3 is ‘steep’ for NWRC

FORMER ST EUNAN’S FORWARD David McGinley says his North-West Regional College team will learn from days like yesterday.

NWRC lost by 26 points (5-18 to 0-7) against Letterkenny Institute of Technology in a Division 2 league game.

It’s the Derry students’ first taste of Division 2 after their winning of Division 3 last year.

McGinley still hopes that his team can be permitted to play in Division 3 of the Championship.

“It’ll be a steep learning curve this year,” McGinley told Donegal Sport Hub.

“This is the first year we’ve played at this level. A lot of our fellas are 16 or 17, coming out of GCSE, and they’re playing against fully-grown men.

“That was our first taste of Division 2. You have fellas there with senior, under-21 and minor county experience. Physically, if nothing else, it means that we aren’t at the races.”
