BRETT MCGINTY’S NEXT TARGET will be a European Youth gold medal.

His coach at Oakleaf ABC, Eugene O’Kane junior (pictured above with Brett and Dessie McGinty), plans to take the 17-year-old St Johnston man to Nathan Cleverly in Wales for a training camp after his silver medal win in the 69kgs class at the Commonwealth Youth Games.

“The next plan for Brett is the European Championships and then the World Championships in Russia,” he told Donegal Sport Hub.

Eugene O’Kane senior, Oakleaf ABC founder and secretary, hailed McGinty’s performances in Samoa.

“It was a great performance,” he said on Monday night at a homecoming function in St Johnston.

“He’s a great boy. He showed dignity. He showed character. He showed determination and everything possible for a boxer.

“Any doubters that were, there he put them to bed. His selection was totally vindicated.”
