Audio: Bundoran manager Brian Gavigan says team had to ‘live up to favourite’s tag’

BUNDORAN HAVE BEEN the favourites for the Intermediate Championship all year, but they waited for the final to really show their worth.

After coming through the group phase, Bundoran edged out Naomh Brid in the quarter-final before getting over a real scare against Aodh Ruadh in a tense semi-final.

They made no mistake against Naomh Colmcille in the final as Brian Gavigan’s team had 25 points to spare by the conclusion.

“It was a massive performance and the boys are over the moon,” Gavigan said.

“That performance was in them and they got it out of them today. The favourites tag was given to us and we couldn’t do anything about it – we just had to live up to it.”

The bulk of the damage was done in the first half when goals by Diarmuid Spratt, Jamie Brennan and Tommy Hourihane set them on their way before Shane Carr added a fourth late in the game.

Gavigan said: “It was very important to get the start and we drilled that into them all week.”
