Audio: Brian McDermott on PCC Falcarragh’s dramatic Under-14A final win

BRIAN MCDERMOTT BELIEVES the resilience shown by his PCC Falcarragh team was vital in their victory in the Donegal Schools’ County Under-14A final.

PCC came through an epic contest 4-13 to 6-6 with Conor Coyle firing over the winning point in injury time, to the delight of those in blue. McDermott was praiseworthy too of Carndonagh Community School, the beaten finalists, who also contributed hugely to the contest.

“Carndonagh had momentum but then we started to get back into it,” McDermott said, with his team having trailed by eight points early in the second half.

PCC got back on terms but were still a point down as the curtain was about to fall. However, they mustered two late scores to dent Carndonagh any chance of back-to-back titles.

“In injury time it was slipping away from us but we were still in the game,” McDermott added. “It was an unbelievable game of football – schools football at its best. Great courage shown by both teams.”
