BRETT McGinty heads off to begin his 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games bid tomorrow – and the St Johnston man is going for gold.The Oakleaf ABC puncher jets off to a training camp in Australia, which precedes the Games, which are being held from September 5-11 in Samoa.

McGinty, a six-time Irish champion, has been selected as part of a five-man team that also includes Stephen McKenna (Old School), James McGivern (St. George’s), Tiernan Bradley (Sacred Heart, Omagh) and Aidan Walsh (Holy Family).

Fighting at 69kgs, McGinty is aiming for a gold nugget in Apia, the Samoan capital.

“I’m a year young for the competition, but it’s either now or never,” he told Donegal Sport Hub.

“I’m not going to get another chance at this. I was too young for the last one and I’ll be too old for the next one. I need to grasp this with both hands.”
