Audio: Ardal McDermott pleased with Donegal hurlers’ start in Division 3A

Donegal hurling manager Ardal McDermott believes fitness told as his side tore Louth apart in the second half today.

In a 2-23 to 1-14 win in their opening Allianz League Division 3A game, Donegal posted 13 scores in-a-row in the second half, having hit goals in the first half by Cathal Doherty and Kevin Campbell.

“We were slow out of the blocks and Louth were right up with us until about ten minutes into the second half,” McDermott said.

“Maybe our fitness shone through and the scores started to convert.”

Donegal momentarily fell behind when Seaghan Connolly goaled for Louth, but Donegal hit back.

McDermott said: “We know there is character in this team and we have confidence. We didn’t show it in the first half but we knew we had the ability to beat Louth.

“Maybe we needed the understanding that things can go wrong to get the best out of us. The boys responded and we got that.”
