Aodh Ruadh to honour Billy Finn and John Larkin next weekend

AODH Ruadh will still mark the memory of hurling stalwarts Billy Finn and John Larkin next weekend.

The two Aodh Ruadh stalwarts passed away in 2017.

In the last two years, the May Bank Holiday Monday has held the Billy Finn/John Larkin Under-14 Hurling Tournament, but the Covid-19 pandemic has shelved this year’s tournament.

Instead, on the weekend of May 8-11, Aodh Ruadh club members will stage a big fundraising event. Members will run/walk/crawl 1,000km in 72 hours.

This challenge will begin at 9am Friday 8th May and run until 9am on Monday 11th May. The participants are raising monies for the following local charities: Donegal Wheelchair Association, Liquid Therapy, Donegal Alzheimer’s Association and Patients Comfort Fund Shiel Hospital.

“They were tireless workers for hurling in Aodh Ruadh and great workers for the Ballyshannon Community,” John Rooney, the event organiser, told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“These great hurling men sadly passed away in 2017 but their memory will never be forgotten This year we are honouring them in a different manner, we are undertaking a huge challenge.”

A GoFundMe page has already raised over €2,000 and you can donate here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/billy-finn-john-larkin-challenge-1000km-in-72-hrs
