Another Donegal League football club opts to cease club activities ‘in light of CoVid-19 crisis’

Another Donegal League football club has made the decision to ‘cease all club activities with immediate effect’ in light of the CoVid-19 pandemic and admitted they are unsure when they will resume sporting activities.

Drumkeen United tonight released a statement in relation to a ‘reported Covid 19 incident’ in their area, saying although there is no confirmed case at their club, if they were ‘to continue to play football in these circumstances [it]would just be irresponsible.’

Curragh Athletic today made the decision to suspend all activities ‘due to a spike in CoVid-19 tests in the area’.

The Club Statement from Drumkeen United FC reads in full:

“Due to a reported Covid 19 incident in our area Drumkeen United have taken the decision to cease all club activities with immediate effect. Im not sure when we will resume but we will monitor the situation in the week ahead. Both of our adult teams, our youth team and our Under 12 team were due to play games in the next few days and these will now not take place.

“We are not aware of any club members who are directly affected at the moment but as there is no testing in place we can not be 100% sure. It seems to be common knowledge in the surrounding areas that we have an incident here in Drumkeen and for us to continue to play football in these circumstances would just be irresponsible. Since early March we have been told everyday to STAY SAFE.

“The best way to do this is not to be exposing people to unnecessary risk. In the interests of the Safety of all involved with our own Club and the Clubs we would be playing against and also the match Officials we have reluctantly taken this decision. We send our good wishes for a speedy recovery to those affected by the virus and remind everyone to do everything they can to Stay Safe.

“This Virus has not gone Away and we must always remind ourselves of that.”
