ANN-Marie McGlynn clocked two hours, 35 minutes and 31 seconds at the Valencia Marathon this morning.
The Letterkenny AC woman finished 114th in the event with fellow Irish athlete Gary O’Hanlon 70th in a time of 2:19:06.
McGlynn, whose PB of 2:32.54 was set at the 2019 Dublin marathon is aiming to qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo next year.
The Olympic qualifying period for the marathon is open until June 29, 2021. The qualifying time is 2:29.30.
The 40-year-old LAC woman, who is coached by Derryman Colin Roberts, had some stellar performances in 2020.
In June, McGlynn broke the Northern Ireland women’s 10k record at Down Royal Racecourse in June when she ran 32:43, taking 55 seconds off her previous best.
She also set a new Donegal record of 71 minutes and 40 seconds at he World Half Marathon Championships in Gdynia, Poland
The Donegal senior female athlete of the year competed this morning in Valencia to close out her year.
Evans Chebet of Kenya ran a two-minute personal best and the sixth-fastest time in marathon history, to win the marathon in 2:03:00, ahead of Lawrence Cherono and Birhanu Legese.
Peres Jepchirchir set a women’s course record to win the women’s marathon in 2:17.16.
The Kenyan also won the World Half Marathon title in October.
Joyciline Jepkosgei, also of Kenya, was second with Namibia’s Helalia Johannes in third.
