Amber Barrett scored FOUR goals yesterday as Peamount United defeated UCD Waves in the Continental Tyres Women’s National League.

Barrett scored twice in each half of the game at Greenogue as the Peas continued their good run of form. This was their fourth win in succession and Barrett has now hit 10 goals in her last three games.

“It’s another three points for us, which is a big, big plus,” the Milford woman said.

“We hit a bit of a rut and fell behind with a couple of draws and we were beat by Wexford. It’s nice to get a couple of wins and it’s good to get another win.”

Barrett and co face Shelbourne next weekend. With Shels a point ahead of them in second in the table, it’s a massive game for both.

Barrett said: “The excitement is back in training and we’re starting to move again. We have Shelbourne next week and we need to take as much form into that.

“There is a long way left this season and whoever is going to win it will have to work for it. We will all have to push.

“We’ll just take it one game at a time and the focus is on Shelbourne now.”

The Republic of Ireland striker has moved onto 17 goals for the season, five behind leading scorer Fianna Jarrett of Wexford.

Barrett is thrilled with her form.

She said: “I had a bad spell after I hurt the ankle, but I’ve come out of that. I’m there to score goals. That’s my job. The work-rate behind me is excellent.

“Rhianna has had a great season and is the benchmark. It’s the same as the League – whoever is going to win it will have to work for it.”
