All-Inishowen women’s final as Donegal punchers seek Senior glory

THERE is an all-Inishowen clash tomorrow night in the finals of the National Senior Championships in Dublin.

Illies Golden Gloves welterweight Caroline Gallagher (pictured above) is bidding for glory, but will face a familiar opponent across the ring.

Gallagher will face Rosie Doherty, competing for the St Francis club in Limerick.

Doherty, though, is well known as she hails from Carndonagh.

Previously, Doherty fought for Carndonagh Boxing Club and also trained for a time at the Illies club.

Gallagher – an all-rounder who has also had plenty of success on the Gaelic football and soccer pitches – last week overcame Karolina Jaglowska from Celtic Eagles on a unanimous decision.

Now, she aims for national honours in the squared circle.

Also bidding for a Senior title is Matthew McCole. The Dungloe native, fighting out of the Illies GG club for these Championships, goes up against Martin Sammon from Galway in the men’s welterweight final.

McCole defeated Sean Butler of Riverstown to reach the decider and he goes under the spotlight down the South Circular Road in search of glory.
