Glenfin’s Aaron McGlynn (pictured in Tbilisi with his parents Karen and Shaun) came through his 800m heat comfortably in second in a time of 1:57.77, while Arlene Crossan from Letterkenny has qualified for the long jump final with a best of 5.98 metres.
The Loreto Convent student also jumped 5.63 metres and 5.73 metres.
With only two places in the final guaranteed with the two fastest losers from the three heats, McGlynn, running in lane 8, finished behind Szymon Zieba, with the Pole clocking a winning time of 1:57.65. Turkey’s Yener Aras was third in 1:58.04.
Both McGlynn and Crossan are members Finn Valley Athletic Club, as is Sommer Lecky.
