FRANCIE FRIEL WAS last night ratified as the manager of the Termon senior men’s panel for 2016.

It’s the first time that Friel has taken charge of the men at the Burn Road outfit, who last season won the All-County Football League Division Two and progressed to the last eight of the RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta Donegal SFC, where they ran eventual winners Naomh Conaill close.

Pauric Hilferty, Paddy McMenamin, Hugh Harkin, Paul McIntyre and Michael Boyle will be Friel’s backroom team.

Paddy McDaid was the manager last season, with Friel as trainer – a role he also fulfilled under former managers Daireann Gibson and Tommy Ryan, who took Termon to the 2008 Donegal senior final.

Friel enjoyed glittering success as manager of Termon’s ladies, a role he stepped aside from in November.

In 2014, Termon won all six competitions they entered – the Donegal and All-Ireland Comortás Peile na Gaeltachta, the Donegal Ladies League Division 1, the Donegal and Ulster SFC titles and the Tesco HomeGrown All-Ireland Senior Ladies Club Championship.

Geraldine McLaughlin scored 3-8 as Friel’s side came from behind to defeat Mourneabbey from Cork 3-12 to 1-13 at Tuam Stadium in Galway.

Friel, who was also kitman for Jim McGuinness’s Donegal, initially took over at the ladies in 2013 and worked alongside Trevor Alcorn, whilst also training Termon’s men’s team.
