In their maiden game Oldtown Celtic welcomed Glenea to the Community Centre in Letterkenny – and it was a winning start for the Donegal League’s newest entity.

Oldtown Celtic 3 Glenea United Reserves 1

The game started brightly with both teams creating plenty of chances.

Oldtown broke the deadlock on 20 minutes when Ryan Tyrell put David King in on goal and the striker finished well into the bottom corner of the Glenea net.

Glenea kept pressing the Oldtown defence but were denied by a well-organised back line.

Oldtown doubled their lead on 35 minutes after Joe McCarron found Luke Friel on the right and he put in a delightful ball which found Paddy McLaughlin who headed into the top corner.

Glenea to their credit kept playing some neat football and pulled a goal back when Dean Gallagher beat two defenders and found the bottom corner of the Oldtown net on 40 minutes.

The second half started and Oldtown nearly added a third from Luke Friel who was only to be denied by good goalkeeping from the Glenea keeper.

Both teams had plenty of chances and Oldtown added their third goal on 75 minutes after Mickey Hawe found Micheal Gibson with his cross and Gibson headed home much to the delight of the home support.

Team performance from Oldtown. Best for Glenea was Dean Gallagher.

Referee: Con Mc Laughlin
