St Eunan’s open up new season with impressive home win over Dungloe

THE NEW ST EUNAN’S management team of Barry Meehan and Eddie Brennan got off to a winning start against Dungloe – with Conor Gibbons scoring eight points.

As well as that, Lee Monagle and Rory Kavanagh were goalscorers on a fuss-free day at the office.

The Letterkenny side hit the ground running and had racked up a 1-4 to 0-0 lead before their visitors – now under the management of Patrick McGowan – got off the mark.

The goal came on eight minutes through a crisply struck McMonagle penalty, right into the bottom corner with pace after Kavanagh was adjudged to have been fouled by Raymond Sweeney.

Beforehand, Ciaran Sharkey in the Dungloe goal had managed to keep his sheet clean for another while when he made a fine stop – at the concession of a point – to deny Cillian Morrison a goal.

Then, three Conor Gibbons points on the spin made for a seven-point lead.

Dungloe got off the mark on the quarter-hour when Noel McBride slotted over and the visitors almost grabbed a goal from their next attack. However, Blake Forkan in the St Eunan’s goal came from his line to stop a Conor Greene shot.

John Haran, now 40, added a sixth St Eunan’s point before another three on the bounce from Gibbons to leave it 1-8 to 0-1 at 25 minutes. Substitute Ryan Greene pulled one back for the away side right before the break.

St Eunan’s didn’t relent and at the start of the second half, just two minutes in, Kavanagh added a second goal from close range after good approach play from Patrick McGowan.

Christopher Greene of Dungloe passed up on a goal chance for Dungloe on 41 minutes when he dragged a shot wide after Conor Greene – who was doing well in his personal duel with Eamonn Doherty inside – had laid on the chance.

Dungloe got another sight of goal soon afterwards when Ryan Connors got in but he missed the target.

At the other end, St Eunan’s had the luxury of brining on the likes of Rory Carr and Conall Dunne as they ran in easy winners.
