CLONMANY SHAMROCKS ran out winners against Glengad United in this evening’s Clubman Shirts League Cup final.

Clonmany Shamrocks 3-1 Glengad United

Two goals from Mickey Friel and one from Jamie Coyle made for a three-goal advantage before John Gerard McLaughlin scored for Glengad in the closing stages.

Glengad went close to an opening goal on 10 minutes when Matthew Byrne’s free-kick flew just wide. And five minutes later Terence Doherty shot over the crossbar following good approach play from Steven McLaughlin. Doherty then tested Paddy Harkin with a header after a cross from Nigel McMonagle.

But it was Clonmany who took the lead on 32 minutes after a long ball into the box by Coyle and Friel finished excellently.

It was 2-0 in the 52nd minute with Coyle the scorer. The opening came following a good move that was started by Dessie Doherty and Paddy Doherty got the better of two defenders and played a neat pass which Coyle finished well into the far corner.

Then, six minutes later, Clonmany made it three when Harkin finished from the edge of the box after Glengad didn’t clear after a save from Kevin McLaughlin from Dessie Doherty.
