DUE TO the death of Ulster Council Secretary Danny Murphy, the official opening of Killybegs GAA Club’s new facilities has been postponed for a week.

The GAA President, Aogán Ó Fearghail, was set to perform the official opening of the new fitness and administration centre tomorrow at Eamonn Byrne Memorial Park.

The works have been ongoing for six months and the building costs total around €65,000.

A Sports Capital Grant of €40,000 was supplemented by the club’s fundraising efforts to add the new facility to an already-impressive development.

The official opening will now take place next Saturday, December 17, at 2pm.

The late Mr Murphy stood down from his role earlier this year because of ill health but was to officially remain in post until February. He passed away this week and will be buried tomorrow.

Mr Murphy is a former member of the GAA Central Council and vice-president of the GAA.

Mr Murphy served as vice-president and president of the Ulster Council before being appointed provincial secretary, a position he held for 16 years.

Danny Murphy’s funeral Mass will take place at noon on Saturday in St Mary’s Church, Burren, County Down.
