ST COLUMBA’S College of Stranorlar won a remarkable Danske Bank Arthurs Cup final at Celtic Park today.

St Columba’s Stranorlar 2-15 Holy Cross Strabane 3-9

Oisin Gallen scored a remarkable 1-11 for the Twin Towns students with only five of those points coming from frees.

A first-half goal by Adam Edwards had Holy Cross 1-6 to 0-6 ahead at half-time and the tie was delicately poised.

That goal by Edwards, registered in the 18th minute, had Holy Cross a point ahead before an amazing period saw four goals netted between the 46th and 49th minutes.

Gallen siezed on a poor kick-out by Daniel Boyle, the Holy Cross goalkeeper, to blast into the roof of the net.

Just 40 seconds later, Conor Bonner did likewise after rounding Boyle and, all of a sudden, Kenneth Byrne’s team led by five.

However, Holy Corss hit back. Tom Mullan hammered to the top corner of the St Columba’s net and Sean Maxwell’s low effort drilled past Cian Gallen to swing the tie back in their favour again.

In the final ten minutes, St Columab’s outscored Holy Cross by five points to one.

Gallen scored four of those, two from play and two frtees, while Alex McGeehin chipped in with another to secure the title.

Gallen, with three points, and John Moore with another got St Columba’s off to a fliying start, but defender PJ McDaid had to be on alert to block a goal-bound effort by Sean Maxwell.
