It’s a ‘Special’ day for Letterkenny gymnasts with gold medal haul

A PAIR OF Letterkenny gymnasts won a stunning TWELVE gold medals between them yesterday.

Patrick Quinlivan from Long Lane in Letterkenny scooped seven golds and Hawthorn Heights’ Meg Carr came home from the Special Olympics Northern Region Gymnastics Competition with five gold medals.

The competition was held in the Salto Gym in Lisburn.

15-year old Carr won gold in floor, beam, bars and vault as well as winning overall gold in her category.

Quinlivan (34) won gold in floor, parallel bars, high bars, rings, vault and pommel horse. He, too, won the overall gold in his category.

Quinlivan is a coach with Letterkenny Community Gymnastics Club and trains weekly with Salto Gymnastics Club.

“Both athletes have put a tremendous amount of work in preparation for the competition and I’m delighted it’s paid off,” said Monica Grier, who traveled with the athletes to Lisburn yesterday.
