IRELAND, back boned by the Magees from Raphoe, defeated Hungary 4-1 yesterday at the European Mixed Team Qualifiers in Dublin.

After a 5-0 win over Norway on Friday night, Ireland overcame Hungary yesterday to set up a crunch meeting with Austria this afternoon at 3pm in the Baldoyle Bamdinton Centre.

Three-time Olympian Chloe Magee overcame Agnes Korosi 23-21, 21-19 in the women’s singles game yesterday.

Magee and her brother Sam teamed up for a 21-8, 21-16 win over Pal Padar and Daniella Gonda.

Brothers Joshua and Sam Magee defeated Pal Padar and Marton Szatzker 21-8, 21-12, while Dubliner Scott Evans defeated Gergely Krausz 21-10, 21-14.

Rachael Darragh, a niece of the Magee siblings, joined with Sara Boyle, but they lost out to Daniella Gonda and Orsolya Varga 17-21, 21-19, 14-21.

The 4-1 win moves Ireland a step closer to securing qualification. Austria have also beaten Norway and Hungary, setting up a huge game this afternoon.
