Carndonagh ABC host big night of boxing in new clubhouse

CARNDONAGH ABC stages their first tournament in their new clubhouse on Friday night with a top-class night on the canvas.

The clubhouse was officially opened last December by Jason Quigley after 12 years of tireless work by the club and its community finally came to an end.

The club had to raise around €120,000 and had no grant aid for the development, but as they showed last Friday night, a bit of team work can go a long way.

The Barrack Hill club was packed to witness a night of quality action staged by the local club, who have won 14 Irish titles over recent years.

Two-time Irish champion Jessica Clarke was one of the stars on Friday night as she enjoyed a triumph over Jessica Connolly from Ballaghaderreen, the visiting club from Connacht.

Justin Nelson recorded a fine 3-0 win over Immaculata’s Adam McColgan while James Devlin and Oisin Devlin recorded wins over Owen McLaughlin (Maydown) and Hugh Doherty (St Bridget’s).

The female boxers in Carndonagh have had superb records lately and on Friday night there were also wins for Clodagh McGonigle, who overcame Twin Towns’ Kira McMenamin, and Shania McCloskey, who enjoyed a win against Ballaghaderreen’s Leah Duffy.
