Donegal boxers ready for Ulster Senior Championships

THERE IS A strong Donegal interest in the Ulster Senior Championships, which glove off at the Dockworkers Club in Belfast on Tuesday evening.

Eight boxers from Donegal will be in action this week in the Championships.

On Tuesday night, Kieran McCole from Dungloe faces Holy Family’s Aidan Walsh in a welterweight quarter-final, while David Tennyson (Dungloe) and Martin Lynch (Illies Golden Gloves) are in middleweight quarter-finals.

Tennyson meets Emerald’s Conor Doherty with Lynch taking on Finbarr Kelly of North Down.

On Wednesday evening, there will be an all-Donegal semi-final at light-heavyweight where John McDonagh (Letterkenny) takes on Cathal Browne (Illies Golden Gloves).

The winner of the McDonagh-Browne clash will be up against Illies Golden Gloves’ Garbhan Friel (pictured) in the light-heavyweight final on Friday night.

Jordan Pearson from St John Bosco will be in a lightweight semi on Wednesday as he meets the winner of the quarter-final between Dereck Kerr (Glengormley) and Piaras Casey (St John’s).

The heavyweight final on Friday night will be an all-Donegal affair as Illies’ Davit Tsotsoria meets Michael McConigley from Letterkenny ABC.

A total of 37 boxers weighed in across three venues at the weekend.
