SHAUN MCGARVEY SCORED 1-5 for Cloughaneely in their Intermediate B Championship final win over Gaeil Fhánada in Dunfanaghy yesterday.

Cloughaneely 1-11 Gaeil Fhánada 1-2

When the Falcarragh-based side went in ahead at the interval, 0-6 to 1-1, despite playing against a strong breeze at the Bridge, the writing was on the wall.

Gaeil Fhánada created an early goal chance but Shaun McGovern shot wide and then at the other end. However, they were fortunate not to concede a goal early on when Shaun McGovern raced through, but he dragged his shot wide. Then, at the other end, Seamus McAteer, the Gaeil Fhánada goalkeeper, saved from Noel Sweeney.

McAteer was on hand to deny Martin Ferry on 13 minutes. However, Cloughaneely might’ve had bother in their goal attempts but were effective when shooting for points.

Gaeil Fhánada grabbed a goal to stem the tide on 20 minutes when Enda Coll was on hand to shoot home after a long ball int by Kevin McElwaine.

By half-time, three points from McGarvey and a couple courtesy of Blain Mulligan had Cloughaneely 0-6 to 1-1 up, with Brendan Friel scoring the only point for Gaeil Fhánada.

Declan McGarvey opened part two with three points and Shaun McGarvey struck an excellent score from distance.

The goal to put the cheery on the victory for Cloughaneely came 11 minutes from time when Declan McGarvey laid on the chance for Shaun McGarvey and shot past McAteer.

Shaun McGarvey then struck the crossbar late on but it mattered little as his side were comfortable winners.
