THERE WAS A mix of the past, the present and the future as St Eunan’s College marked a new era at Sentry Hill yesterday.

The official blessing and re-opening of the College’s football pitch took place, marking the completing of a huge €150,000 series of works at the ground.

The entire pitch was reseeded and a new drainage system was installed.

Yesterday, the first game on the new pitch took place with the St Eunan’s College senior team, managed by Neil Gordon, playing the Letterkenny Institute of Technology team, managed by Eamon O’Boyle, in a challenge match.

The Bishop of Raphoe, Dr Philip Boyce, performed the blessing of the pitch, the works for which was funded by the Diocese of Raphoe. A new billboard was unveiled to mark the friends and sponsors of St Eunan’s.

There was also a function, held in the office of the St Eunan’s College Principal, Chris Darby, to honour the 1955 Rannafast Cup-winning team. The former players were led by the captain of that side, Canon Austin Laverty, who went on to become a President of the College.

Members of the 1956 squad that contested the MacRory Cup final were also special guests at yesterday’s function.
