Inishowen League: Redcastle hit six, Sea Rovers win and Rasheney earn late draw in First Division

REDCASTLE UNITED hit six to win for the first time in the League this season, while Sea Rovers had a good home win and Rasheney pounced late for a draw at home to Aileach in the Strand Hotel First Division.

THERE were few chances in a tight first half with Rovers unlucky after a Conor Gallagher effort came back off the post.

The Point opened the scoring on 43 minutes when a James McCready effort deflected off a defender and looped over Glen Watson in the Rovers goal.

Rovers upped the tempo on the restart with Anthony Cantwell having an effort saved by David Bell.

They got back on terms midway through the half when Cantwell fired to the roof of the net from 25 yards.

QPS replied and Josh McLaughlin saw an effort well saved by Watson.

The home side took the lead then on 83 minutes when Shay Rodgers released substitute Daniel Glackin and he calmly finished past Bell.

They sealed the tie on 88 minutes when Damien Ward fired a brilliantly twenty yards free to the top corner after Tiernan Stephens was upended.

Rasheney FC 2 Aileach Reserves 2

THE visitors had the first chance when Anthony Rabbitte fired over while at the other end Peter Doherty released Charlie Doherty on the right and when he crossed Dylan Clarke parried but there was no attacker to take advantage

The visitors broke the deadlock on 12 minutes when Paul McHugh advanced unchallenged through the middle and fired low past Tiernan Devine from 16 yards.

Rasheney had an immediate chance to equalise but Matthew McLaughlin blazed badly wide from in front of goal.

Aileach doubled their lead in the next attack after Ruairi Bradley cut in from the left and fired low across Devine to the far corner.

Rasheney had another chance but Damien Friel failed to capitalize when well placed and before the break McHugh fired narrowly wide.

Aileach had a good chance just after the hour when substitute Brendan Hegarty unmarked saw his low effort superbly saved by Devine.

Rasheney dominated the last half hour of the game with Paddy McGilloway firing over from distance before substitute David Mclaughlin was just wide with an effort.

On 86 minutes Matthew Mclaughlin flicked the ball into the path of Charlie Doherty and he fired low past Clarke.

A minute later the same two combined but Dohery headed wide at the back post.

Deep into injury time Clarke parried a John Grant effort and Doherty pounced to claim his second and a share of the spoils.

Carrowmena FC 2 Redcastle United 6

CARROWMENA started well and Christopher McGeoghaghan was only denied with a last ditch tackle before Harry McCormick broke on the right and fired into the side netting.

Redcastle responded and went close when a Shaun Curran effort crashed back off the post.

The visitors took the lead on 27 minutes when Joe McCauley released Robert McLaughlin and he played the ball into the path of Curran to slot low past Maurice McGeady.They increased their lead on 35 minutes when Philip Margey nipped in and poked the ball past the advancing McGeady.

When a corner was not cleared before the break it fell to Darragh McConway to fire home from fifteen yards.

On 55 minutes a defensive error allowed Colm Mclaughlin find Curran who in turn fed Margey and he fired low to the corner from twenty yards. Carrowmena rallied and got a goal back after Michael Craig played a one-two with Raymond Campbell before threading a ball to McGeoghaghan who fired past the advancing McCole.

They then got another goal back after good work by McCormick on the left saw him cross for Samuel Bredin who fired first time low to the corner from the edge of the area.

Redcastle stemmed the flow on 72 minutes after a Kevin Toner effort looped up over defender and keeper and over the line.

They completed the scoring when Curran side-footed home from close range.
