Audio: Caolan Kelly says Championship progress fuelled Glenswilly for precious League win

CAOLAN KELLY says yesterday’s League game against Ardara had all the hallmarks of a Championship encounter.

With both sides scrapping for survival, victory has given Glenswilly’s survival bid a massive boost with Ardara now looking doomed for the drop.

The 1-12 to 2-5 win at Pairc Naomh Columba means Glenswilly will now fancy their chances of staying up, although they do have tricky games against Dungloe and Termon to come.

“It was definitely a must-win game for us,” Kelly told Donegal Sport Hub.

“You want to just stay in Division One. This was a massive game and nearly like another Championship game.

“We made silly mistakes in certain games and were without certain players. It’s been tough without the two county boys (Neil Gallagher and Michael Murphy). If we can get another win or two now it should see us in Division One.”

Glenswilly led by a point at half-time and restricted Ardara to just a single point in the second half – scored by Conor Classon 20 seconds into the half.

Kelly said: “We worked very strong in the second half. We’re happy with the performance. We dug deep and we worked hard. Thankfully we came out on top in the end up.”
