A 10-POINT WINNING margin looks comfortable in the end but St Eunan’s came good in extra-time to defeat Killybegs in the County Division 1 Under-16 League final in Glenfin.

St Eunan’s 2-17 Killybegs 2-7

(after extra-time)

Karl Gallagher’s late free for Killybegs forced the need for extra-time, Killybegs 2-6 to St Eunan’s 0-12.

However, goals in the additional 20 minutes from Michael Gallagher and Peter McEniff confirmed the title for the Letterkenny side.

Two first half goals – one in the first minute of the half and then one at the end – put the team from the south-west in control to begin with. Ryan Cunningham, whose strike came on 19 seconds, and Charlie Boyle were the goalscorers.

Conor O’Donnell scored five points and Daragh Ellison four over the course of the contest but Killybegs were still the team in control for most of the second half. However, O’Donnell and Ellison scored late to make it Killybegs 2-5 St Eunan’s 0-11.

Then, when Ellison grabbed a point it looked as though St Eunan’s had the silverware in the bag, only for Gallagher to level.

It was in extra-time that Ellison and O’Donnell took over, whilst two goals gave the scoreboard a more comfortable look in a contest that had been much closer throughout.
